July 23 – The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (9pm)

In the second Hunger Games movie, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark visit all of the nation’s districts on the Victor’s Tour after winning the 74th Hunger Games. With a nation on the verge up an uprising, President Snow fears that Katniss will become the symbol of rebellion. He enacts the Quarter Quell, which allows the rules of the Hunger Games to be changed once every 25 years. He decides to hold another Hunger Games where the previous Hunger Games winners compete again, rather than randomly drawing a male and female from every district. President Snow is hoping that Katniss will be killed along with the upcoming revolution.

An 80’s classic, E.T. is the story of a brother and sister that discover and befriend an alien. E.T. that was accidentally left behind after a mission to Earth was cut short. Elliot (Henry Thomas) and Gertie (Drew Barrymore) try to help E.T. return home, while keeping E.T. hidden from their parents and government scientists.  E.T. builds a device to try and send a message to his family, but after some time starts to get very sick. Will E.T make it home? Starring Drew Barrymore and Henry Thomas, this film won 4 Academy Awards and was groundbreaking at the time for its use of special visual effects.

Despicable Me 2 is an animated film that tells the story of an ex-criminal named Gru (the voice of Steve Carell) who is trying to turn a new leaf and live an honest life. This change was inspired by his newly adopted family of three little girls, Agnes, Edith and Margo. Having given up a life of crime, Gru has settled down and started selling jams with the help of his minions. Just as he was getting used to to his new lifestyle, a super-villain steals a chemical which can turn harmless animals into treacherous monsters. Meanwhile, his oldest daughter Margo is falling for a leather-jacket-wearing guy named Antonio. Gru has to balance saving the world from a crazy super-villain while simultaneously protecting his daughter from getting her heart broken.

The tyrant, Lord Business, wants to glue the universe together and it’s Emmet’s job to stop him. This animated film is surprisingly thoughtful and hilarious.

Frozen is an animated film about 2 sisters Elsa and Anna. Elsa, was born with the power to create ice and snow which has been kept a secret from everyone. When the time has come for her to become Queen, a huge ball is held for the entire kingdom. Her emotions get the best of her, and Elsa accidentally puts an eternal cold spell on the kingdom and brings to life the hilarious snowman, Olaf. Anna, the eternal optimist, sets off on a journey to find her older sister who ran away after realizing what she had done. Along the way Anna gets help from a man named Sven and his reindeer, whose ice business is out of luck now that the whole kingdom is frozen.

Eventually, she needs the money and agrees to give Walt the rights – if the movie is made to her liking.
